I had fun making it, it only took about 1 naptime to complete (3 hours)

I love how bright and fun it is.

plus i added some fun yellow striped fabric flowers.
LOVE

i am thinking i still need to add a ribbon for it to hang from.
miiiight get around to that.

Backpack

I am finally getting around to posting about the Dora Backpack that I made for miss k. When my mom came to visit after my birthday she helped me finish it.

i used this tutorial.
But I made some changes....

1. my fabric is actually from a long purple corduroy skirt, about a size 12 that I found at the DI for $6. which:
a) gave me a finished topside edge
b) allowed for a pre-made pocket on the back side
c) gave me enough fabric to make 2 back packs (the other is still 1/2 done!)
2. I have added a "map" pocket to the side
3. I also made this backpack a bit larger than hers.
4. added velcro the the inside to keep it closed (which i now need to sew in to it)

the "map" pocket

the original skirt pocket on the back side. it fits mamas cell phone perfectly--with more than enough room.

my velcro....oh, and the flap has a lining also, there wasn't enough corduroy fabric for that little bit.

miss k loves it. she puts it on and carries stuff all around in it.

i'm sure she is just happy that i'm done with it.
every time we would go to walmart, if we stopped by the fabric section she would keep saying "make a backpack."

it was fun. and pretty easy!
my mom did the applique part. that scared me a bit.

check out the links in my sidebar....i may be linking this there :)

Crayon Rolls-Service Project

Tatertots & Jello had posted on FB that a reader needed 145 crayon rolls for children in Haiti (makes me wonder if there is a connection there to Brandon and Jess who will be going to Haiti in about 9 days.....hmmmmm.) I have been wanting to make one for miss k for a while so I told her I would make some too! I need to mail these out....i've been sick so things have been hay-wire around here.

Here is the end result:

i had this fat quarter bundles that i got from joanns or something.
i used this tutorial from prudent baby and it was really easy!
only took two nap times to finish all four of them, lol. gotta love naptime!!
It would have been faster but i was doing other things as well.

this is the inside

then with the crayons in it.

Did you notice what i did wrong?? lol...

well.....on the blue one.....i ironed on the interfacing onto the wrong side (the good side not the inside part) of the fabric! hahaha. oh well. that would be k's she won't care. it doesn't look that bad. but....then....i also sewed the lines on that one wrong in about 2 spots (so 2 of the pockets are smaller, 2 are bigger). hahaha. oh well. crayons still fit, it still looks cool. and to my 2 year old.....she doesn't know the difference. she doesn't even like it! she takes all the caryons out of it and gives me the roll back. weirdo. then she can't put them back in. maybe she will appreciate it more when she is 3. or maybe when we think she isn't color blind. seriously. we think she is color blind. she is soooo smart and still can't do the whole color thing. it's a constant battle. we will keep on trying for a little while, i'm sure she will get it eventually.

pillowcase dress

i went to the DI and found this cute yellow pillowcase with a nice floral print. I thought it would be perfect to make a top out of, then i could just wear a little sweater over it.

so i pick my fav top that fits me fabulously.
and i drew with a pen around the top where i would cut, giving a 1/2 in extra for where i would sew but then directly under where the bias tape would cover the raw edge.

i ended up with this....

then i sewed it together.....and it didn't fit. of course. the original top was stretchy and this material...wasn't. dang! i was going to look SO cute with this top!
ugh!
so instead, I turned it into a dress for miss k. i had to take it in some on the sides and shortened the straps, but it totally works.

i also added some little ruffles straight down the top.
i folded down the bottom raw edge, and the top one is covered by some bias tape.

i really like how it turned out!
and it only took about an hour....including time where i had to reconfigure the whole thing. lol.

she loves it!

miss girl is about a 2T. this dress is probably a 3T. but that's ok, she has enough clothes for right now. when she gets bigger it will fit her just right!
she is just a tall skinny girl.

checkbook cover

after making my camera strap cover there was a lot of left over. (i started with 2 fat quarters)
so i decided to make a checkbook cover out of the remaining!
there is still leftovers!! i'm so excited, i love the pink polka dots!

i'm sure the man won't appreciate the colors. oh well. lol!

I used a tutorial found here. it is really really easy and seriously took me like 30 min....tops.

Gathered camera strap cover

So last night I made a camera strap cover for my camera.
this is the second one I made, the first now resides on my mom's camera and I used 2 jelly roll strips, so it was skinnier, but it worked!

this time, I added a pocket for....an extra memory card, or gum, whatever.

i really liked how it turned out. I LOVE the polka dots.
I'm obsessed.

I also tapered one side at the end so it fit directly over the strap there.
it's nice. you can see where i had to sew it down like 12 times. lol.

now I look all super cute when i take my pics!!

my first project made on my new machine!!! YAY!
ok, it was completed on the new machine. the old one busted as I started the last one.
you can find the tutorial here. I didn't have elastic, and didn't feel like buying it, so i just used ribbon. it's fun...next is to make some potholders i found here. I just need to get the fabric for my bias tape from my mom.
so excited for that! mom will be here next week! just in time for my birthday!! :)

I'm excited to tear up this shirt and make a dress for k....I actually bought 2 of them....$1 at walmart!! awesome...maybe i can make me something as well!! a skirt?? hmmmm.....

i just love the contrasting cuff!! i hope i can use that somehow too!!
